| My Love Affair with Movie Classics |
|
|
Are you a big fan of classic films? Well, I know I am. In fact, my
favorite channel is the Turner Classic Movie Channel that is offered by
our local cable company. Old films give me a lot of enjoyment because
they are the foundation for our film experience today.
I have also
experienced many surprises in movie classics. For example, I had no
idea that Dennis Quaid’s film “DOA” was a remake of an earlier film. I
was amazed at the skill which the more recent producers employed to
create a modern version of one of the movie classics.
Producers, directors and actors create movies with the generation that will be viewing them. They all tap into the collective unconscious in order to create a blockbuster hit of the era. But do you know that they often do this with movie classics in the mix as well?
You see, it is important to remember the great, old films in order to create new ones. Many of the movie classics touch upon universal plots and themes that appeal to just about everyone. They realize that times change but the general emotions do not.
Human nature does not change, either. People nowadays, have the same desires and dreams as our ancestors who sought adventure and excitement through the movie classics. Every generation experience life differently but the principal forces of life do not change.
However, styles and ideals often do change. I find silent movie classics very inspiring. These old tales serve as great sources for story concepts as well as artistic images. I have drawn many renderings of famous stars of the silent film era and I have also written a few tales based on old movies.
Many of us often take our history for granted. I think that we also need to embrace our movie classics as a learning source. We can learn a lot about the history of our society through film.
People essentially remain the same through the generations, even though society has gone through so many changes. This can be observed through old classic movies. For instance, no matter how many changes we all go through, we can still be tickled by The Little Tramp.
